In October 2019 a large group of non-violent activists occupied the Place du Châtelet and the aptly named Pont au Change bridge in the heart of Paris. They sought to bring urgency to the struggle to prevent catastrophic climate change and habitat destruction. It was a scene rich in contrasts: continuity and change; security and freedom; old and new; danger and joie de vivre.
